A split system installation involves preparation, patience, and a little knowledge. The following steps will show you how to take care of this task.
The most important thing you want to do is make sure the split system is installed safely and correctly. Pay attention to the following:
- Do not install the unit under direct sunlight or near heat.
- Pay close attention to the refrigerant, and make sure it does not leak. Ventilate the room if there is some leakage.
- The unit should not be near sulphur, gas, or oil.
- Allow six inches of open space around the unit. The unit should be seven feet above ground level.
- Allow 3.3 feet of space between the unit and power lines, antennas, or connecting lines for things like televisions or radios. These lines can cause disruptions.
- Do not install in a location where there is a strong breeze or where dust accumulates easily. You want good, clean airflow.
Before proceeding please make sure you are familiar with local regulations in your area to ensure that your are allowed to install a split system air conditioner in your home. Certain parts of the installation such as wiring will need to be completed by a qualified electrician.
The first thing you want to do is secure the mounting plate using a level.
Now, drill a three-inch hole through the wall, which should slope downward. This hole goes through the mounting bracket. Keep in mind that the placement of the hole and the distance the piping has to travel to the exterior unit must be taken into consideration. Placement of the outdoor unit will be explained later. Insert the flexible flange into the hole once you are done.
Check the electrical wires by opening the unit’s front panel. You may need to remove the cover, too. All you need to do is check that the cables are connected to the terminals and that the setup matches the diagram in your instructional booklet.
Run your piping through the hole while minimising bending. You want to cut a PVC pipe, which should be about one-fourth of an inch smaller than your piping. Place the pipe cap on the interior end of your PVC, and insert the pipe through the hole.
Make sure that you bind copper pipes, power cables, and drain pipes using the electrical tape. Keep the drain pipe at the bottom to help the water move easily.
You can use two wrenches to secure the indoor unit pipe. This can be done by working the wrenches in opposite directions.
Connect the water drainage pipe to the indoor unit.
All you have to do now is secure the indoor unit on the mounting plate. Be sure to check the overall stability of the unit once it is secure on the mounting plate.
The unit needs 12 inches of space around its perimeter and should be placed away from heavily trafficked or hot areas.
Set the concrete pad. Then, place the condenser down and use rubber cushioning. Be sure that the condenser is at least 10 feet from any antennas.
Fasten all cables leading up to the condenser, and connect them properly using the specified instructions on the manual. Be sure to secure flare nuts at this time.
You want to make sure you bleed the system of any air or humidity. To do this, all you have to do is remove the caps from the two and three-way valves. Connect your vacuum pump and switch it on until 10mm Hg is reached. You can close the low pressure knob, and turn off your appliance now. Do not forget to check for any leaks that can be fixed. You can remove the vacuum, and replace all the caps you removed earlier.
Use insulating tape and covering on the piping. Secure the piping with clamps, and seal the hole using something like polyurethane foam.
